Sevenoaks Residential Character Area Assessment Supplementary Planning Document

Yesterday evening saw the public launch of the Sevenoaks Residential Character Area Assessment.  Representatives from the Bradbourne Vale Road Residents’ Association and Greatness Residents’ Association joined me at the event.

The Sevenoaks Residential Character Area Assessment will go on to become a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) and thus be of material consideration when making decisions on planning applications.  In the next few weeks a couple of walks will be held in the ward with council officers, councillors and residents (including members of the re-formed Bradbourne Lakes Residents’ Association) to point out features which need protecting, characteristics which are typical of the area and development which does not contribute to the aesthetic of the locality.

A local exhibition will be held in January so residents may comment and make further suggestions, then a six week consultation period will be held prior to Sevenoaks District Council adopting the finished document.

This is a particularly exciting project because for the first time, those areas in Sevenoaks which are not currently within a conservation area are having a community led planning document to protect the interests of residents.
